    The Auld Alliance
Composition performed during the artist’s workshop of the 27th International Congress of Genealogic and Heraldic Sciences, hold in St Andrews (Scotland) from 21 to 26 August 2006. The general theme was Myth and propaganda in heraldry and genealogy.
The Auld alliance between Scotland and France was signed in Paris the 23rd October 1295 the king of France, Philippe IV and the king of Scotland, John Balliol. This military treaty was drawn up to avoid England’s aggressive expansion plans towards his neighbours. It also brought a solid friendship between the two peoples and favoured commercial relationships.
This rendition is in honour of the Auld alliance during the reigns of James II of Scotland (1430-1437-1460) and Charles VII of France (1403-1422-1461).
Supporters, banners and war cries are these of the two realms. On the terrace, there is a semy of Scottish thistles and French lilies.
I have chosen this historic context according to the particular theme of the artist’s workshop that was: ’Mythological Beasts: The Heraldic Monsterpiece’.
